Jack Black
Kyle Gass
Tenacious D, the greatest band on earth, consists of two musical visionaries; Jack Black and Kyle Gass. The two first met in 1985, when Jack was 16 and Kyle was 24.   As fellow members of the theatre ensemble known as the Actor's Gang, Jack actually didn't like Kyle very much at first, but the two eventually worked out their differences. Kyle even taught Jack how to play guitar, or as in Kyle's words, "I met him as a young lad, and then I raised him from a pud". During their time in the Actors Gang, the two starred together in several productions including Tim Robbins' Carnage. Soon after, the dynamic duo began playing together in Kyle's apartment in LA.  Initialy the duo was considering calling themselves 'The Axe Lords', but in the end, they decided to go with 'Tenacious D', which was actually a basketball phrase of Marve Alberts'.
After a few months of practicing, the D got their first gig.  This momentous occasion occurred at Al's bar in downtown Los Angeles in 1994. It just so happened that David Cross, one of the producers of HBO's Mr. Show was in the audience that night and he liked what he saw. This introduction eventually led to the creation of a show simply titled; Tenacious D: The Greatest Band on Earth which appeared on HBO.
After three two part episodes, the D decided to call the show quits, but the D where far from finished. They already had droves of faithful fans and on September 25, 2001, the D released their first self titled album containing 21 delicious tracks.  When asked in an interview what their next project would be, the D confirmed the rumors that Tenacious D will be hitting the silver screen in a movie titled:
