“Success seems to be linked to action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t give up” – Conrad Hilton
Everyone has to work, but for many of us that work isn’t just a paycheck, it’s an opportunity to express ourselves and do something better. Also, learning is the most important part. Learning anything requires commitment and the ability to overcome the uncomfortable feeling of not being very good before achieving competence.
Recording engineer Kavon, also known as “ItsKavon”, has a mantra he swears by – Learn. Learn as much as you can, where and when you want. He sees learning as the greatest opportunity. Kavon remembers: “I would never leave a conversation, without learning or acquiring new knowledge”.
He started his musical journey at the age of 12 when he had just started mixing music and was barely charging $5-10 per song. When it was time for him to choose his career path, he intuitively chose music and decided to keep his passion alive. To turn his passion into a career, Kavon enrolled at the Art Institute of Atlanta where he majored in audio and sound production. Today, he is a sound engineer and has his own music studio.
Some strategies that helped Kavon succeed in his journey were to stay humble and let every human he encountered be a learning opportunity. He adds, “Look at everyone you meet and talk to like a new book on a shelf full of information waiting to be unlocked.
Always remain a student; never think you know more than the other person because it keeps your mind from absorbing new information, and you don’t want that. Your goal should be to learn something new every day. He currently lives in Greenville, South Carolina.
